Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

Thursday 5 May 2011

Kuala Lumpur-The Fourth Annual Fred Tibbitts & Associates “A Spring Evening in Kuala Lumpur with Very Special Friends” proved to be another memorable event for the sixty guests, who included hotel executives, ceo’s, presidents, managing directors, regional vice presidents, general managers, industry VIP’s, the press and valued sponsors.

The reception was hosted by Beam Global, Liquid Luxury, Albert Wine & Spirits, Moet Hennessy Diageo Malaysia, Ronnefeldt Tea and Stoelzle glassware.  Beam Global and Liquid Luxury served many of their top luxury cocktails prepared by professional mixologists, while Moet Hennessy served Moet & Chandon Brut Champagne.  Phillips Foods Asia provided their finest crab meat for many of Executive Chef Tan Tik San’s marvelous canapés and hors d’ouvres.  All guests were formally announced with style by Floyd Pereira, Director, Food & Beverage; and gonged with distinction by Halim Rahman, Outlet Operations Manager for the Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur.

The four-course gala dinner brought Fred Tibbitts to the podium, who welcomed the guests and asked that they consider “Service as the Highest Calling”.  Tibbitts explained that the primary purposes of the FTA dinners are to recognize hospitality excellence, provide scholarships in the names of those whom are honored and to make charitable contributions to benefit those less fortunate.  Tibbitts promptly called for the evening’s seven “Loyalty Toasts” by some of the dinner personalities, including Melvin Lim, General Manager, Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur; Hazel Yong, Senior Account Executive, HORECA, Moet Hennessy Diageo Malaysia; Praba Menon, General Manager, Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur; John Northen, Area Vice President-South East Asia, Marriott International; William Costley, Vice President of Operations-South East Asia, Hilton Worldwide; Alan Ong, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur; and Hans Winsnes, General Manager, Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

After the guests enjoyed their elegant First Course of Lobster Crab Cake and Phillips Crab Meat Timbale with Basil-Lime Aioli and Curly Endive Salad with a trio of delightful white wines from Australia, New Zealand and the South of France, Tibbitts announced a donation of $500.00 USD from a portion of the dinner proceeds to the China Tibetan Children Health & Education Fund, based at Hong Kong.  Richard Xu, Editor-in-Chief, New Western Cuisine (China) Magazine accepted the donation on behalf of Madame Annie S.C. Wu, Fund Founder who was unable to be present.  But moved by the dinner themes of compassion for those less fortunate, scholarship and charity, dinner guest John Northen, Area Vice President-South East Asia, Marriott International and others at his table rose to the occasion and pledged an additional $500.00 USD to be donated to the China Children’s Fund.  Northen enthusiastically took the podium and challenged the other tables in the room to match his table’s spontaneous generosity.  And taking the lead from Northern and his collaborators, the other 5 tables each unanimously agreed to match the $500.00 USD pledge, meaning that the total additional pledges to the FTA donation amounted to $2,500.00 USD with the grand total therefore going to the China Children’s Fund being $3,000.00 USD.
